What we do


The basic idea behind the network is to bundle the technical and scientific expertise in Austria in the field of disaster research and to act as scientific point of contact for public and private sector. In the process, the existing scientific and technical infrastructures should be used and brought together for common application.

The association's activities offer the following advantages and synergies:

  • Contributing to the protection of human lives and infrastructures by avoiding damage caused by disasters and their consequences

  • Availability of a coordinating contact for decision-makers in authorities and organizations at federal and state level as well as for politics and society

  • Provision of expertise and cooperation with related initiatives

  • Establishment of a coordinated partner network for national and international research activities by networking and development of existing structures

  • Scientific processing of questions that are initiated from practice

  • Access to the latest scientific findings as a service for external interested parties

  • Increase efficiency by sharing existing infrastructure

  • Joint research and dissemination in the area of gender and diversity in civil protection and disaster management

  • Training of qualified junior scientists
