FireWISE as a game changer in wildfire operations

The latest issue of the emergency services magazine “Blaulicht” offers insights into another DCNA project: FireWISE – Knowledge Management for Humans and Machines of the Austrian Fire Service – a game-changer in wildfire operations.

FireWISE demonstrated the functionality of a novel knowledge management system using the wildfire use case. This system maps the dynamics and complexity of knowledge in hazard control in a human- and machine-readable format. The article details how the system was implemented, the technologies used, and how technology acceptance was assessed.

FireWISE was funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance’s KIRAS security research funding program.

We were able to further expand our communication formats – such as the DCNA podcast – and the DCNA Young Scientists program, and the DCNA research infrastructure was also enhanced with a new walking robot. Furthermore, the DCNA maintained a strong presence at international conferences and co-organized the Disaster Research Conference – which, for the first time, focused on drones, robotics, and artificial intelligence in disaster management.
