Disaster Competence Network Austria (DCNA) acts as a link between scientific research and practitioners in crisis and disaster management. Through knowledge and technology transfer, findings from basic research are implemented and directed to those interested in security and disaster research in Austria and beyond.

How is science intertwined with Italian CivilProtection? In the context of the EU project BORIS2, we spoke with Daniela Di Bucci (Italian National Civil Protection Department) and Aldo Primiero (Friuli-Venezia Giulia Civil Protection) about this topic, about cross-border and cross-project collaboration, and the interviewees' expectations towards BORIS2.
The Disaster Research Days 2024 is a joint event by the European Commission’s Community of European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s European Science and Technology Advisory Group (E-STAG) and co-hosted by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Education and the Disaster Competence Network Austria.
As part of the EU network project COVALEX, we will be running an online hackathon, starting on July 22, 2024. The aim is to develop an IT tool that addresses the challenges of data interoperability in disaster management, especially for hydrometeorological risks (floods, storms, droughts, etc.). The winning team will be invited to the Disaster Research Days 2024.
