Hannes Kern studied technical chemistry at the Technical University of Graz and moved to the Montanuniversität Leoben for his dissertation in the field of "dust explosions". After receiving his doctorate, he headed the research group for process and plant safety at the chair for thermal process technology at the Montan University for several years. As part of his research activities, Hannes Kern focuses on the subject of industrial safety and the work of emergency services, especially in the event of industrial accidents.
Hannes Kern is a member of numerous national and international specialist committees and a member of the board of the Society for Safety Science e.V. For more than 25 years he has been a member of the volunteer fire brigade and commander of a special unit for hazardous goods accidents. With this in mind, he brings with him extensive knowledge of hazard prevention in the event of chemical and hazardous goods accidents as well as CBRNE dangers.
In the DCNA, Hannes Kern focuses on “Man-Made Disasters” and is the contact person for the “Disaster Risk” working group.
