EMERDEC: second study successfully concluded

EMERDEC-Studie Planspiel

Emergency responders constantly have to make decisions in extremely stressful situations. The FFG-KIRAS project EMERDEC is investigating how these processes function and how emergency responders can be better supported in the future with digital and AI-based systems.

At the beginning of the month, the second study took place at the Carinthian State Fire Academy. In a multi-phase testing procedure, the decision-making behavior and physiological reactions of participating firefighters to operational scenarios were examined.

During these two intensive and engaging weeks of study, the project team gained many valuable insights. The focus was on how emergency responders make decisions under time pressure, uncertainty, and complex circumstances. The data and observations collected will help to better understand decision-making processes in emergency response and to derive requirements for digital and AI-based support systems that provide truly practical assistance in real-world situations.
